(Iiiiii think my approach to the Real Historical Person side of things is looking like: confirm dates/locations/major events against a biography where strictly necessary, and then I can go from the film or lift details from anything she wrote herself.
I don't know why this seems more respectful, but... maybe I just feel obscurely that it's the more likely way I'll ever approach the level of chemically pure air-cooled Marquise-de-Merteuil-grade vitriol that comes through in the Miss Vermont bit from Raising Demons once you KNOW about Stanley.
