Where will your id take you this round? Sign-ups begin July 10 and last a full week, so there's plenty of time to decide.

For the un-id-niated, as last year, we've included a primer and some common tropes under the cut:



What is idfic?

Fic that tickles your id! Maybe it's the fic you make up just before you fall asleep. Generally speaking, idfic is that sweet spot where the answer to the question "Is this too filthy/sappy/wrong/just plain weird?" is a resounding "No!”

According to Fanlore, nonnies have described idfic as follows:

It's pleasureable, and comfortable fic, doesn't have to be all bad. But [...] any bad points are overlooked or just passed off as 'meh, who cares'. It has the narrative kinks/tropes that someone loves and wants to read. [original post on FFA]

If I were to label something I was writing an idfic, it would mean that I was writing purely to satisfy myself and what I want from the fic and the canon, and then justifying my choices to myself after the fact. [original post on FFA]

What I call idfic is fic where the point (for the reader or the writer) is a set of strong feelings, gratifying to the emotions the same way porn is gratifying to the loins. [original post on FFA]


We are not defining what qualifies as idfic. If you consider your story idfic, then it is. Your story doesn't have to be porny, though it may be.

At the moment I'm in the mood for a tropey Western AU, and I have an idea ... but I'm also shaking my fist at my id for giving me an idea that would require significant research!

I'm torn among three sources - Ocean's 8, Star Wars, and Instinct (CBS) - so I'm still not sure what I'm going to write. Heist fic? Finn and Poe get into more ~erotic shenanigans? Ghost hunters? WHO KNOWS

I'm undecided about everything, including whether I'll actually sign up this year, but the idea of writing one of those awful delightful "human-animal-hybrids-as-pets" fics is enticing. One half of the pairing as a cat hybrid, the other half as a dog hybrid... I can get into all sorts of trouble with this idea- animalistic behaviors, heat cycles, D/s, improbable pregnancy, domesticity fluff, angsty backstories, the works! All my favorite iddy things that won't work in my primary canon.

Now if only I can convince myself to actually write and more, post it...

I’ve got two terrifically iddy ideas again. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish them both this year, since at least one of them should only just be a bit more than 5k words, I hope. This year, I’ve got marriage of convenience/fake relationship, and the other one is soulbonds where neglecting your soulmate causes them to go into a magical coma, and they can only be awoken if they feel loved by their soulmate again. Terrible, isn’t it? :D

I am torn! On one hand, I've been secretly dying to write bodyswap, but on the other, this is the excuse I need to write fallen-angels wingfic.

I didn't manage to finish my fic last round but I'm going to give this another shot! Right now I'm thinking it'll probably be accidental soulbonding, epistolary fic, or - if I can swing it - epistolary soulbonding fic.

(Soulbonding seems to be a relatively popular trope this year, judging by the other comments! I'm glad.)
