Brainstorming Post and Primer!

Feel free to bounce ideas around in the comments – tropes, plots, pairings, anything goes! The only limit is your imagination (and definitely not the bounds of good taste). \o/

For the uninitiated, we've included a primer and some common tropes under the cut:



What is idfic?

Fic that tickles your id! Maybe it's the fic you make up just before you fall asleep. Generally speaking, idfic is that sweet spot where the answer to the question "Is this too filthy/sappy/wrong/just plain weird?" is a resounding "No!”

According to Fanlore, nonnies have described idfic as follows:

It's pleasureable, and comfortable fic, doesn't have to be all bad. But [...] any bad points are overlooked or just passed off as 'meh, who cares'. It has the narrative kinks/tropes that someone loves and wants to read. [original post on FFA]

If I were to label something I was writing an idfic, it would mean that I was writing purely to satisfy myself and what I want from the fic and the canon, and then justifying my choices to myself after the fact. [original post on FFA]

What I call idfic is fic where the point (for the reader or the writer) is a set of strong feelings, gratifying to the emotions the same way porn is gratifying to the loins. [original post on FFA]


We are not defining what qualifies as idfic. If you consider your story idfic, then it is. Your story doesn't have to be porny, though it may be.

Found this and is the perfect occasion to write Outlander fic! I was planning on doing it for Camp-Nanowrimo (with a goal of 5k), so it's perfect!

I really want to do Lord John/Claire/Jamie, because of the last published book. I'm still thinking what to do, but I think I want to go the porn route, just to have some fun, because it's been awhile since I wrote anything.

I feel like almost all my fic is idfic so this bb is right up my alley! :-D For reasons that don't need exploring, I haven't written much in recent years but I really want to get back into it.

I have two Sentinel fics that need to be expanded on. Both contain heightened senses and noncon. Jim Ellison is the perpetrator in one (poor, poor Blair) and the kidnapped victim in the other (Brackett boo hissss). Decisions, decisions...

This will be great! I have plans for a Star Wars: TFA fic where Finn is in a coma for a prolonged period of time and Poe and Rey both pine about it for ages and then eventually start guiltily comfort-fucking each other.

I think I'll brave this challenge once again :) Wallowing in my id sounds like the perfect remedy for my writer's block. I already looked through my drawer-fics and I have two potential stories that I could finish, polish and let out into the world. Two different fandoms, several year between them, and both are about mind reading/manipulation and oh so dramatic betrayal. My id knows what it wants.

(I swear I will continue the story I started last time for iddy but this year has been totally void of any creative energy whatsoever. I want to continue it. I will finish it. Soon.)

I'm going to take part this year and I'm going to do it right! I've got the perfect idea and finally nailed it down to iddy perfection today. It will involve Vetinari, pining, and Drumknott, winged and a little oblivious. I'm really going to let my id go wild on this one, so look forward to some very serious, over-the-top pining. Everyone loves pining, right? Especially me!

I wish I could work in some wing!sex too but it can't happen, I'm afraid. There'll be some angsty goodbye wing-fondling though, which is almost as good, yes? Wish me luck <3
