Frequently Asked Questions

What is Iddy Iddy Bang Bang?

A panfandom mini-bang for >5k idfics.

Has your Captain Kirk/OC tribble-milking extravaganza never seen the light of day, but now you'd like it to? Do you not care who takes how many of what where? Then you're in the right place!

What is the length requirement?

Stories must have a minimum of 5,000 words. There is no upper limit.

What kinds of fanwork are eligible?

For 2016 we will be accepting stories, art (including comics) and fanmixes. If you want to make fanwork for any other medium, let us know and we’ll be happy to add it!

What is idfic?

Fic that tickles your id! Maybe it's the fic you make up before you fall asleep. Generally speaking, idfic is that sweet spot where the answer to the question "Is this too filthy/sappy/wrong/just plain weird?" is a resounding "No!”

We are not defining what content qualifies as idfic. Your story doesn't have to be porny, though it may be.

How will completed works be submitted, and where?

The posting period will be September 15-22. Participants can post their completed works to the community (or have them posted).

The exact posting schedule will be announced closer to the date. In the meantime, you can also post to the Iddy Iddy Bang Bang collection on AO3.

Why do I need to check in?

The check-in is so we know you're still with us! We don't need to see your work, or an exact word count if you’re not comfortable sharing those, but do come and say hi.

What if I miss a check-in?

We understand that things happen. If you know that you're unable to make a check-in beforehand, contact us and we’ll consider you checked in! Similarly, if you miss a check-in because of RL, please contact us.

If you miss both check-ins and we can’t reach you, you will be considered as having dropped out.

What if I can’t complete my assignment on time?

You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Seriously, we won't be mad, but let us know so we can discuss an extension!

I need to drop out!

OK! Please let us know ASAP. If you've claimed a prompt, that prompt will be set free in the prompt pool.

If you vanish at the last minute without a word, we will have to ask you to sit out the next round. So please make sure to get in contact with us!

If you defaulted on round one...well, we were just starting out too. Feel free to try again!

Can I participate if I don't have a Dreamwidth account?

Yes! You can sign-up with an email, though you will need a Dreamwidth account to post your work to the community. You can sign-up for Dreamwidth here. If you have LJ you can use Open ID.

If you don’t want to make a Dreamwidth account:

You can send us your work to be posted for you. Otherwise, you can post directly to the platform of your choice (just remember to tell us where) and we will link your work. An example is here.

I want the mods to post for me! How do I submit my work?

Sure! Email us at iddybang@gmail.com prior to your posting date with your fanwork either attached or in the email body, and we’ll put it up for you. (Feel free to code your own fic if you're familiar with HTML!)

Is RPF allowed?

Yes!

Can I use a WIP?

You can, as long as it hasn’t been posted previously. We're tickled to be incentive for you to dust off your best OH JOHN RINGO NO drawerfics and finish them.

Will there be prompts?

Yes! There will be an optional prompt pool for you to play in should you be stuck for ideas -- or if you have prompts you’re not using, or would like to see written. You may post as many prompts as you like, but please note that they become claimable once posted to the pool.

Prompt claims should be noted in your author signup.

If at any time you would like to withdraw your claim, please contact us.

How does the claiming process work?

Comment on the prompt pool post – either to the post itself, or to the comment containing the prompt – and we will reclassify it in the post as claimed.

Can I write more than one story?

Yes!

Do I need a beta?

No, though you may request one or offer to beta at the post here.

I'm still not sure what an idfic is!

For further reading on what constitutes an idfic, please see:
Fanlore's entry on idfic
[community profile] fail_fandomanon: "At what point, in meme's opinion, does something become idfic?"

What can I write that's iddy and not porn?

A nonnie had some great ideas for non-porny idfic here!

My question isn’t answered here. How can I contact the mods?

Use the page-a-mod post or email us at iddybang@gmail.com. For the latter option, please make sure we're on your spam whitelist so you'll get your reply!

Minor question about the "more than one story." Do they have to be connected, or can two unconnected stories make up the piece? Just wondering.

I am not entirely clear on this bit: In the meantime, you can also post to the Iddy Iddy Bang Bang collection on AO3. Reveals will happen on the last day of the posting period.

Are stories posted anonymously? That's what I associate 'reveals' with, but I didn't have the impression things were supposed to be anonymous. Or does that mean that things posted to the collection on AO3 won't display until the last day of the posting period?

Is there a beginning time for posting to AO3? 'In the meantime' implies not, but it's not entirely clear. I've currently got my (unbetaed) fic there as a draft. I'm holding off posting it because I wasn't sure if the rules permit that yet and because I'm still hoping to find a beta reader (I can dream).

Okay. Thanks for getting back to me.
