Favourite scene: It only exists as outline for now, and I haven't got it in first draft form yet, but I am so! hype! for the horse petting scene.

The memories rise in his mind like bubbles, popping before he can grab onto them. In them, he sees flashes of hair the color of autumn, a smile that warms his bones, and he feels the phantom touch of someone who once loved him.

Boy, people sure lied to them a lot.

I started writing my submission last night. Really like the way it starts:

Halfway between her chambers and his, there was a secret place, meant and made only for the two of them. It was a nook by turns bright or cozy, depending on the time and the weather and whether or not they had recently got tired of the window and disappeared it. There were shelves for their books and scrolls; a padded window seat wide enough to fit two, and several comfortable armchairs for when they didn't feel like the window seat; a latched wooden box containing food enough for weeks, spelled to keep all of it good for years; and in the midst of it all, there was very nearly enough room to maneuver without banging one's self against the furniture.
